Whether you have ancestors who came over from Ireland or not, everyone loves to be a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day which is celebrated every year on March 17th. The Roman Catholic feast of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, has been observed in Ireland since the ninth or 10th century, but nowadays, those celebrations look very different than they once did. Today St. Patrick’s Day has become a fun celebration filled with activities, parades, and traditions honouring Ireland.

Did you know that many of the traditions we love about St. Patrick’s Day actually started in America with the descendants of Irish settlers? In fact, many of the St. Patrick’s Day activities and traditions you know and love today actually originated in America.
