We love Harry Potter. The stories are incredibly magical and we could read the books a hundred times and watch the movies a thousand times and never tire of these magical tales. With Harry Potter’s birthday coming up we wanted to celebrate with something a little different, and these Butterbeer Cake Pops are the perfect no bake solution!

Who doesn’t love a little magic in their days? I think that is why the allure of Harry Potter is so strong. It makes it so easy to believe that make is just behind this invisible veil, just waiting to transport us into this amazing, spectacular world that is filled with the most amazing things.

Now I am still waiting on my owl to attend Hogwarts, but for now I have been happily embracing my inner witch and creating all sorts of magic right here.

We learned how to cast Wingardium Leviosar. We played with Troll Boogeys. Yes it is satisfyingly disgusting! We created wands that could cast Lumos. We even made a massive selection of Harry Potter bath bombs as part of our potions lessons.

When it comes to the magical world of all things Harry, the lessons are endless!

Today’s lesson doesn’t involve any science, but it does teach kids some kitchen skills and gives them the confidence that they can create amazing recipes!

This Harry Potter recipe can be made by any age, since it is no bake and a wonderful sensory experience creating with food!

Harry Potter Cake Pop Ingredients

12 cupcakes (buy premade, make it from a box or make it from scratch)
Marshmallow fondant (premade or make your own)
Premade frosting (aka icing, or make your own)
1 tsp yellow gel food coloring
1/4 tsp orange gel food coloring
1/8 tsp black gel food coloring

A Magically Adaptable recipe

My favourite part about this recipe is that it truly is so flexible. You can adapt it based on who is making it and their ages and abilities. Below I am sharing the most simple way to make them using premade ingredients, but if you have the talents, time and resources, why not try making the cupcakes from scratch, and making your own fondant and icing. We all know when these parts are made from scratch they taste so much better! But when starting out we want our kids to feel empowered and successful in the kitchen, so start with some premade ingredients to ensure their success. I know their creations will still be magical!

Pro Tip! If you are making your own ingredients add some butterscotch flavouring to give your cake pops a more authentic butterbeer flavour. Butterbeer Cake Pops Directions

This is the fun part. Get your kids breaking up the cupcakes into crumbly bits in a large bowl.

Once they are finished their cupcake destruction, mix the cupcake crumbles with frosting about a tablespoon at a time. Mix until completely combined. You have enough when your crumble sticks together and can be formed. If your cupcakes have frosting (icing) already on them, simply reduce the amount you add to the crumble to ensure you don’t add too much.

Form the mixtures into 12 cylinder shapes with your hands and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.

Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to set them and remove a bit of the stickiness.

Set aside a portion of the fondant for use later.

Take about three quarters of the fondant and work yellow and orange gel food coloring into it until the desired color is consistent throughout. You can do this by mixing with your hands or a large spoon.

Take approximately a third portion and roll the fondant flat (about ⅛-inch thickness).

Cut it into 4 sections with a sharp knife.

Now it’s time to remove the mix from the freezer. Wrap one mix cylinder in one of the sections of fondant you just cut.

Repeat until all cylinders are covered in fondant. Do not try to work the cylinder too much, just get it covered. The the more you handle the fondant, the more sticky it will become. So less is best!

Using half of the remaining uncolored fondant you set aside earlier, work the black gel food coloring into the fondant.

Form 12 circles about the size of the end of your cylinders and 12 handles.

Place the circles onto the bottom of the mugs and press into place. Then roll to create a mug hand and attach it to the side.

With the remaining uncolored fondant, make as many tiny balls as you can. Pile the tiny balls of white fondant on top of the mugs to create your Butterbeer foam.

Place the butterbeer cake balls into the freezer for 10 minutes to set.

Serve chilled for best results.

A magically delicious no bake treat for young witches and wizards to make for a Harry Potter party.

Supplies
