Beeswax Sheet Candle Making For Kids

Beeswax candle making is my favourite calming activity. The sensory inputs, the creative process, the stunning results. I’ve been making these candles for over 25 years and recently decided to teach my boys how to make candles. They loved it! Beeswax Sheet Candle Making is a great activity for all ages and abilities, and a fantastic activity for Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

If you have never done beeswax sheet candle making you are really missing out on a wonderful activity.

The sensory inputs are fantastic. Natural beeswax smells heavenly, even my scent adverse children raved about the delicate, sweet natural smell when we burned our candles. The honeycomb texture of the sheets provides a calming tactile input.

The process of rolling these candles is a fantastic fine motor coordination and strengthening exercise. And not just for children. I worked with seniors for many years and one of the activities I implemented was weekly candle making sessions. The seniors loved this project and found it very beneficial for stiffening and arthritic hands.

The colours are outstanding! You can get beeswax sheets in every colour of the rainbow. Creativity is encouraged as the colours work together to create masterpieces. You can also create custom pieces for special occasions. Perhaps in a loved ones favourite colours, or to match a party theme, or to coordinate with a special holiday.

The versatility is amazing. You can make everything from tapers, to birthday candles, to tea lights, and more. The only limitation is your imagination.

Finally the results are beautiful. Who doesn’t love the calming and elegant burning flame of candles. Made even more special when it was created with love using natural products.

To make Beeswax Sheet Candles you will need:
A cutting board – one with measurements is best. My favourite is this one that is self healing
Rolling cutter (or exacto knife)
Scissors
Wick
Beeswax Sheets in various colours
Hairdryer
Ruler (metal edged is best)

There is also kits you can buy on Amazon that include different colored beeswax sheets and wick in one package.

Tip: If working with children or those with special needs, consider pre-cutting the beeswax sheets or close adult supervision at all times with more capable children. Use caution at all times when cutting the wax. The cutting instruments are sharp and can slip through the wax unexpectedly.

To keep things easy to follow I’ve divided the instructions based on the candle type. I recommend you start at the top and read through as they progressively more difficult.
