If you missed the first posts in the series you can check out our big picture discussion, literally, where we went and counted how many photos we had on our various devices, and those numbers were scary big! So many photos and memories that are getting lost in the shuffle.
Then we talked about taking the crud out and scaling down the masses into a somewhat easier to manage pile. Then we talked about the whens and whys of downloading, followed by the hows and organizing your downloads so your photos will start to be organized!
Our last tip was about fishing out those favourite memories and giving them a little extra protection and love. But there is another reason to put those favourites in a special place and our next tip explores why.
This tip is called: PRESERVE AND SHARE PHOTOS AND MEMORIES
So you have all these pictures, they have been downloaded and organized, the best ones sent up to the cloud, but what use are all these pictures if you don’t have a way of preserving and sharing them?
Plus, I’m sure we can’t have the only grandparents that are always clamouring for more pictures of their family.
Now you’ve got all the photos organized, sharing those favourite memories in a meaningful way is an easy next step.
Once a year go through all those favourite photos. I like to do this in the new year for the previous year. When the kids were younger and we still had great-grandparents around, I used to do this in October so I would have a fantastic present for the family at Christmas. Now I do it in January.
That present? A beautiful, hard cover photobook showing off the best of your photos from the year. Of course, I also print one for us.
For ages my friends were always trying to get me to scrapbook. I don’t scrapbook. It’s way too time consuming and frankly if my house burns down that scrapbook and all those memories are gone too.
By creating your photobooks online and ordering them through an online store like Photobooks, your photobook files are stored on the vendor site so you can reorder at any time. I’ve been using Photobooks since 2010 and all my photobooks are still stored in my account, ready to be reordered with a single click at any time.
This is HUGE! If something happens to your photobook you can just order a new one at any time. Your photos are not lost!

There are other places you can order photobooks from, but after trying many of them I like the quality, customer service and tools at Photobooks the best. I also can’t say if any of the other vendors will save your books like Photobooks.
Plus, these photobooks make fantastic presents for family. Truly, our family members all love getting them. I even customize each of the books with a special note, making their book extra special for them. This very easy to do in Photobooks. You create your project once, then just create a duplicate copy for each family member and customize their individual projects as you wish.
We keep our photobooks in our library and I’m amazed at how often my boys like to pull them out and relive those previous years.
But you don’t have to wait for year end to order a photobook, you can create one to commemorate a holiday or special event.
I created one documenting my youngest son’s adoption journey and our travels to bring him home. It has been a treasured favourite and gets a lot of use.
A SPECIAL TIP FOR HOMESCHOOLERS:
Now we have started homeschooling my favourite thing is to create a year book of my children’s school year. As homeschoolers my kids don’t get yearbooks, but we do get to do a lot of amazing adventures and fantastic learning opportunities. At the end of our school year I have the boys help me create their yearbook. They help pick the photos, do any editing of the photos (either in Photoshop, Gimp or with the Photobook Designer Software), and do all the designing and layout. It’s a fantastic project and the boys love being part of the process of preserving their own memories. Plus, think of all the great learning involved in this type of project!
I hope you enjoy creating your own photobooks and sharing all your amazing memories. Next up we are going to explore backing up and storing all your photos in a secure way that will last a lifetime.
