WHAT MAKES BUTTER SLIME DIFFERENT?

What makes this slime recipe different from our previous slime recipes is two things, first we used Slime Activator which makes it easier for those who struggle with the portions of our normal baking soda and contact lens solution recipe. However, you can use our beloved slime recipe too. I’ll share tips on that in a moment.

The second difference with this Butter Slime Recipe is a little magic… Model Magic! Model Magic is a modeling clay kids can use for sculpting and creating shapes. But it also makes incredibly cool slime. Model Magic slime is super stretchy when you pull on it slowly, but if you pull quickly SNAP! It breaks. It’s also an incredibly smooth slime, very soft and pliable, with no stickiness. Almost like a thinking putty slime. Another benefit of Model Magic is that you can use it to colour your slime, so you don’t need to use a colorant. Although, we did choose to add a little extra colour when making our Harry Potter slimes because we wanted the colours magically vibrant!

Harry Potter Hogwarts House Butter Slime RECIPES

For this project we decided to make 4 different recipes, one for each Hogwarts house because we love all things Harry Potter! Then we placed them in mason jars with cute little custom labels. They make incredible party favours or as a project to do at a Harry Potter themed party or camp where the kids can take home their creations.

Kids can make all 4 Hogwarts House Butter Slimes, or they can just do their Hogwarts House. Maybe after being sorted by our Cauldron Sorting Bath Bombs!

How to Make Gryffindor House Butter Slime

Empty the glue and activator into a large bowl. Mix it together until it turns white.

In the small bowl, add the water and red colourant the water (food colouring works too). If you wish to add essential oil, add that too. Mix.

Now add the red model magic and water mixture to large bowl with the glue mixture. Mix well. When the mixture begins to solidify, it is ready to take out. The Model Magic may not blend all the way in, but that’s OK. We have one more step!

Pick up mixture from bowl and knead on a flat surface. Work it really well with your hands until the consistency is smooth, and the Model Magic is completely blended in.

If you wish to add glitter, sprinkle it in during the last bit of kneading.

    Voila! Gryffindor Butter Slime!

Store in a mason jar with one of our Gryffindor labels on top. Or in a zip lock bag.

How To Make Butter Slime Without Slime Activator

When it comes to slime I really like our original recipe. It is always fun to test other recipes, but I always find myself coming back to this recipe that we started using years ago.

If you don’t want to use slime activator, you can make this recipe using our baking soda and buffered saline recipe.

Simply make your slime using our traditional recipe, once it is made, add in the modeling clay and knead it all together. So simple! Here are the details if you are not familiar with our usual recipe.

BUTTER Slime Recipe Without Slime Activator

    1 cup glue
    1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 tablespoon contact lens solution (buffered saline)
    1/2 cup Model Magic

Start by adding the glue to a bowl. Then mix in the baking soda. I like super stretchy slime, so I tend to use 1/4 teaspoon, but if you want a thicker slime you can use 1/2 teaspoon. I find this Butter Slime gets thick enough later on, so 1/4 is enough, but that’s the fun of slime, playing with recipes to find your perfect recipe! So play!

Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of contact lens solution (buffered saline) and continue to stir until it pulls into a ball. I like to use 1/2 tablespoon with this recipe because it makes for a stretchier slime. Yes it will be stickier, but we address that in a moment when we add the Model Magic. If the stickiness really bothers you, try using 1 tablespoon of buffered saline.

Knead it all together for a few minutes until it is combined and stretchy. Now place the Model Magic in the middle of your slime and start kneading it all together. It will be a hand work out, but it makes the most amazing Butter Slime!

If you want your slime thicker, add a bit more Model Magic until the consistency is perfect for you.

I hope you have a magical time making our Harry Potter Butter Slime recipes!
